Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland

Monika Szymańska-Chargot works at the Department of Microstructure and Mechanics of Biomaterials in the Institute of Agrophysics Polish Academy of Sciences located in Lublin, Poland. Her research interests are focused on spectroscopic studies of biological samples with particular emphasis on the assessment of the composition of plant cell walls and the structure of plant cell wall polysaccharides. She develops both FTIR spectroscopy and Raman imaging techniques of plant samples, as well as methods of chemometric analysis. Those methods are used to elucidate changes in the structure of cell wall polysaccharides in developing fruit, with particular emphasis on cellulose, and investigating the interactions between non-cellulosic polysaccharides and cellulose, as well as using cellulose to develop new composites for packaging applications.
