András Gorzsás is the manager of the Vibrational Spectroscopy Core Facility at Umeå University, Sweden, since 2012. He obtained his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry at Umeå University in 2005 and spent several years as a postdoctoral fellow and researcher at Umeå Plant Science Centre, where he developed Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic and imaging methods for the analysis of plant samples. He is currently the Chairman of the Vibrational Spectroscopy Section of the Swedish Chemical Society. His research interest focuses on FTIR and Raman imaging of biological samples, ranging from transgenic plants to pre-clinical medical applications and astrobiology. In his managerial role, he leads hardware, software, and analytical method developments for a wide range of projects. He is also the Head of the International Society for Plant Spectroscopy and Associate Editor with Technical Advances in Plant Science (Frontiers in Plant Science). He has illustrated books on gardening, but he is honestly not very good at taking care of plants (except orchids. Those are lovely).
